The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is the undergraduate military academy of the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. Located in Annapolis, Maryland, the Academy trains midshipmen to become commissioned officers.
History
The Naval Academy was founded in 1845 to provide structured officer training for the expanding U.S. Navy. It has educated many distinguished leaders, including Chester W. Nimitz, Hyman G. Rickover, Jimmy Carter, and John McCain.
Academics
The Academy offers bachelor of science degrees in a wide range of fields, with an emphasis on engineering, science, and leadership.
Military Training
Midshipmen receive training in seamanship, navigation, marine operations, and leadership. Summer programs include cruises aboard naval vessels and Marine Corps field training.
Admissions
Applicants must receive a nomination, pass academic and physical requirements, and demonstrate strong leadership qualities.
